Where’s Jaspa? (June 5th, 2013)

The place we arrived at yesterday needs no introduction. And we entered it by the most spectacular route available, barring a helicopter! Everyone can have a guess at where we are now!!!

Surely, one of the most recognisable structures in the world

Surely, one of the most recognisable structures in the world

As I said in my last blog, we spent the previous two days slowly making our way down the western edge of Northern California through the redwood forests. The trees we encountered were coast redwoods, the tallest trees on Earth (as opposed to giant sequoias, which are the world’s largest trees by volume).

At 304' (92.6m) tall and 21.6' (6.6m) in diameter, the 1500 year-old 'Big Tree' really lives up to its name!

The redwoods were truly awe-inspiring. They made the human members of our party feel small, so imagine how it was for us Ses.

You really did feel like you were on another world amongst the massive trees, a fact commented on several times. Bisckits said it reminded him of the forest moon above Endor from Return of the Jedi, which I suppose is to be expected, since many of those sequences were filmed in the very groves we visited. It also reminded me a lot of the planet Pandora from Avatar (an equally geeky reference, I know!).

We just drove through a tree!

We just drove through a tree! (Although I’m pretty sure the ‘statistics’ on the board beside it are a little inflated!)
