Nestled in a deep glacial valley of the Canadian Rockies, Lake Louise is the jewel of Banff National Park, Alberta. The waters of this celebrated lake are renowned the world over for their beautiful, opaque emerald colour. Yet the one time (so far) I saw Lake Louise, back in 2008, its surface was predominantly white.
Despite it being late May when I visited, and so technically probably spring, winter had yet to fully release its iron-hard grip on Lake Louise, and ice still covered much of its surface.
Having said that, this just made the reflections of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, perfect blue skies and pristine white, fluffy clouds, all the more dramatic.
This post was inspired by the theme Water/Winter, from Cee of Cee’s Photography.
While you’re enjoying the beauty of and icebound Lake Louise, why not sign up and follow my continuing Journeys here at Jaspa’s Journal, or through my brand new website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram?
And if that’s not enough for you, there are now three Jaspa’s Journey novels to enjoy as ebooks! Perfect for Kids 8 – 80!
You have water, blue and winter all wrapped up in the same photos. Marvelous.
Thanks for setting the challenge!
Beautiful
Thanks very much!
it is indeed a jewel- we had a wonderful time there many years ago. thanks for sharing and bringing back great memories- my photos are still in albums!
I know what you mean about albums! Rich has dozens of them… and I dread to think how many photos on the computer since he went digital!
This lake turns into an ice skating rink during winter 🙂
Now that I’d like to see!
Please refer to the last photo of my post. Here’s the link to the frozen Lake Louise 🙂

Nice photos – Lake Louise is a beautiful place – as you say the amount of ice still present in May is interesting isn’t it.
I have to admit I was quite surprised, Rob. It was beautiful, but I’d also love to see it ice-free.
Wow!! These are simply gorgeous photos! Canada is so VERY high on our to-visit list. We really need to get ourselves there 🙂
Thanks, Monkeys! Lake Louise might be a nice place to rest your weary feet after the Camino!
