Yes you did read the title correctly… Surfing Goats.
At Surfing Goat Dairy, no less.
Where you can actually see goats – including baby goats, I might add – on surfboards. Look….
How cool is that?!
OK, so admittedly it’d be even cooler if the surfboard was on the water, but you have to admit, it’s still pretty cool!
On my most recent visit we did the full-on Grand Dairy Tour, which I highly recommend. Our guide was Thomas, one of the founders of Surfing Goat Dairy, who emigrated here to Hawaii from Germany with his wife, Eva.
The tour began with a demonstration of how the goats are milked. The does (female goats) get a snack to keep them happy during the process. And they probably needed it more than ever the day we were there, since we were allowed to try our hand at milking them. Sorry ladies!
Next we headed out with the flock, escorting the adults from the pen near the milking area out to one of their beautiful pastures.
On the way back we met one of the Billy goats that lives on the farm.
Next we learned all about how the milk when helped collect will be turned into cheese.
Finally, we got to taste some of that cheese, which comes in over two dozen flavours and varieties. Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm! Delicious!
And after we were fed, we chanced to see the kids having their lunch, too. Everyone say, “Awww!”
