My favourite place in the World? That’s easy… Venice.
Of course, if you spend a lot of time in a place – even one as magical as Venice, like I’m fortunate to have done – you’re going to have to deal with some bad weather. Yet storm clouds can have silver linings!
The first time I experienced rain in Venice was in Saint Mark’s Square. But the most memorable thing about that day was how the pigeons that inhabit the Piazza reacted to the storm. As the clouds gathered above us and the sky darkened, the birds began acting very strangely indeed, swooping around San Marco in huge, agitated flocks.
If you’re lucky, a thunderstorm followed by sunshine can deliver a beautiful rainbow. Two, if you’re really lucky. Which is exactly what happened on our final day in Venice, last April (2017)…
If you watch the video above carefully, you can see forks of lightning
The rumbling in the video above isn’t boat engines, it’s thunder!

I loved Venice when we were there almost two years ago. It was sunny and hot then but I’d love to go back when the weather is a little cooler.
Venice is marvelous whatever the temperature, Mama!
Good to know.
