The Roca Oceanica is located just north of Chile’s UNESCO World Heritage Site of Valparaiso. From its craggy slopes we saw this amazing flight of pelicans against the backdrop of the dramatic Dunas De Concón. Our local guide, Antonio, told us they were the whole Chilean Air Force. I’m not sure I believe him!
A little closer to Valparaiso, between the seaside towns of Viña del Mar and Concón, is the Peñon de Vida Marina Nature Reserve. There we saw yet more pelicans, together with a colony of sea lions, and a whole host of other coastal life.
